Sri Lanka and Seychelles have signed five agreements which will further
consolidate the solidarity between the two countries. It has been decided to initiate a joint commission between Sri Lanka and Seychelles. The agreement in this regard was signed at the State House yesterday in the presence of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Seychelles President James Michel. The commission will direct the bilateral relations mechanism including singing of agreements, implementation, progress review, identifying and solving problems. Five agreements on identified areas were signed to develop bilateral relations. The agreements include bilateral political advocacy, tourism industry relations, cultural relations, implementations of sustainable energy projects and technical investment promotions and on sports. Minister G.L. Peiris and Seychells Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Minister Vincent Meriton signed the agreements. A group of people including Seychelles Vice President Danny Faure, Minister S.B. Dissanayake, Monitoring MP Sachin Vas Gunawardena, Parliamentarians A.H.M. Azver, Udith Lokubandara, Lohan Ratwatte, Ranith de Soysa and Thenuka Vidanagamage, Presidents Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in Seychelles Rajatha Piyatissa were present on the occasion.
