The President has declared open the Sri Lanka’s High Commission in Seychelles.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is on an official tour of Seychelles, declared open yesterday, the Sri Lanka’s High Commission situated at the Capital Building on Independence Road, in Victoria. Sri Lanka and Seychelles commenced diplomatic relations in 1988. The first residential office was setup in December last year and Rajatha Piyatissa was appointed as the first Sri Lanka High Commissioner there. Seychelles President James Michel, Vice President Danny Faure, Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Minister Vincent Meriton and Seychelles Opposition Leader Vavel Ram Kalavan were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion Minister G.L. Peiris said that strengthening relations with African countries were mentioned in the Mahinda Chinthana Policy. He said that President Rajapaksa has decided to allocate a plot of land to Seychelles High Commission in Sri Lanka, in the capital city. Seychelles Sports Minister said that the development of relations between the two countries would contribute to global peace. Meanwhile, the President has declared open the new branches of several Sri Lankan organizations in Seychelles. President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is on a state visit has declared open the new branches of Mihin Lanka, Bank of Ceylon, Sri Lanka Insurance and the Nawaloka Medical Centre in the Capital of Seychelles yesterday. Branches of the Bank of Ceylon and the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation are located in the Capital City Building on the Independence Avenue. The Mihin Lanka office is situated at the Ibrahim Building on Francis Rachel Avenue. President Rajapaksa also declared open the new Nawaloka Medical Centre at the City Mart Building in Francis Rachel Avenue, Victoria. Seychelles President James Michel, Vice President Danny Faure and Minister for Community Development Vincent Meriton joined President Rajapaksa for the opening ceremonies.
