Three Russian Naval ships have arrived at the Colombo Harbour with the aim of further solidifying naval ties between Sri Lanka and Russia.
The three Russian naval ships are “Marshal Shaposhnikov”, “Irkut” and “Alatau” of the Pacific Fleet. On their arrival, these were welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in accordance with naval traditions.
“Marshal Shaposhnikov” is an anti-submarine ship commanded by Captain 1st Rank Dmitriy V. Paschenyuk. It is 162.8 meters in length. The ship’s complement consists of 38 officers and 321 seamen. The vessel “Irkut” is 130 metres in length while the vessel Alatau has a complement of 89 seamen and is 92 metres in length. The Commanders of these vessels met the Navy Chief Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage at the Naval Headquarters. Thereafter the Navy Commander joined in viewing the vessels.
The ships will be anchored at the Colombo Harbour until tomorrow and the ships’ complements are scheduled to participate in a special programme organised by the Sri Lanka Navy.
