The President Maithripala Sirisena too watched
live the voting procedures of the 19th Amendment forwarded to the parliament at his parliament office over the the television.President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (28) expressed his comments by making a statement saying that the 19th Amendment Bill of the constitution being passed with a 2/3rd majority in parliament was a historical victory that the public of Sri Lanka were able to secure and that it took a period of 37 years for that victory to be realised. He further thanked the Maha Sangha inclusive of all religious leaders, political Parties, all active citizens and civil organisations for having consolidated the victory by using their vote.
He also remarked that though on five Presidential occasions the leading candidates promised to abolish the Executive President role, it was not practically put into effect and that it was carried out only on this occasion.
