Police tried to send these three extremely innocent people to gallows ....

DNA evidence also false

All 6 murders were committed by another

- Kahawatta defendants' lawyer

Attorney-at-Law Darshana Kuruppu who appeared on behalf of two of the defendants who were
proved not guilty and were thus acquitted of the charges of murdering a mother and daughter of Kotakethana, Kahawatta said after the verdict was pronounced that the police on purpose had filed an absolutely bogus story with the motive of sending these three absolutely innocent people to the gallows.

He also said that yesterday they were rewarded with justice. This is how the lawyer spoke about this:
"This has gone beyond the four halls of the court room. This is a court verdict which speaks of the justice and equity of this country and I brought even DNA evidence on behalf of the second and third defendants because of the belief that an absolutely false case has been filed. It was confirmed thereby that it was one and the same person who was connected to all murders of six females committed in Kotakethana area.

I called for evidence of telephone records of police officers who were connected to this inquiry. As such I proved that on the day these accused were taken into custody supposedly on October 1st 2012 all these officers were in Colombo and not at Kotakethana. Instead of arresting the genuine criminals, 3 absolutely innocent people were taken into custody after developing a terrible false case and in consequence the police officers tried to claim stars after sending those people to gallows and this was a case which exposed the nudity of the police. I also believe that the law would go into force against these officers".
