Colombian President recipient of Nobel Prize ... speaks about Peace Model of Sri Lanka
President Juan Manuel Santos, President of the South American State of Colombia who was successful in bringing an end to a war through a Peace Agreement which plagued for a span of 50 years was the person who had gained the distinction of winning the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2016.
On his arrival in Oslo, Norway to receive the Peace Prize he has responded to a question posed to him about the Peace process in Sri Lanka. He was asked whether the attempt by him to launch a
Peace Accord with the horrendous FARC guerillas was similar to the occasion when Sri Lanka and the LTTE stopped the war during the first part of 2002 through a Peace Agreement. He replied saying that he does not think so when considering Sri Lanka as a model, on a wide scale. He further commented that he studied the system of Sri Lanka and that the Sri Lankan structure and the Columbian structure are different. However he admitted that the post-war period of Sri Lanka was significant for his future activities. "We believe that over 58,000 combatants are now a societal crowd. But it may also not be so ... we're trying to bring the future period of reconciliation towards a success. Sri Lanka is a good example in that respect", he had remarked.
