Tomorrow (24) petrol-shed strike?
Petroleum Trade Unions Collective has announced that a continuous strike would be launched from tomorrow (24) against selling resources belonging to Petroleum Corporation. This was announced at a media briefing held today (23) by Mr. Ashoka Ranwala, President of Petroleum Collective. This
strike by Petroleum Collective basing it on three demands including handing over Trincomalee Oil Tanks to India. He also announced a note of warning saying that by tomorrow morning that not a single bowser would be leaving from Kolonnawa closure and that all transport activities of Muthurajawela Oil Tank Complex would break down totally. Though activities of the refinery would be in operation on a temporary basis, Kolonnawa pumping activities would come to a total standstill and that if government is not to take a proper decision after one day, refinery activities too would come to a standstill and that issuing fuel for aircrafts at Katunayaka too would be stopped, Mr. Ranwala quipped. He has also mentioned that until a confirmation of safeguarding Petroleum Corporation property the strike would be in continuous operation.
Whatever it is, Minister Chandima Weerakkody who had a special discussion on this matter informed that no room has been left to hand over Trincomalee Oil Tanks to India and has said that 4 governments had been only transacting business on a tax agreement from the year 2003. He further stated that he had called for a discussion with Trade Union Collective tomorrow 24th and that they are are taking action by misunderstanding matters and that there is no reason for alarm as such. He also said that he believes that those societies would not launch anything that would inconvenience the government. Whatever it is, what Petroleum Collective has informed is that they would not go in for talks with the Minister over their issue.
