Rajagiriya flyover not misalligned ... it is normal -- RDA explains

Co-Chairman and Co-ordinator of Provincial Committee of Kotte, Mr. Janaka Ranawaka with a group of media reporters made them aware with photographs and videos at his disposal that an issue has cropped up in connection with Rajagiriya Flyover. Mr. Janaka Ranawaka who held the position of Mayor during the Mahinda Rajapaksa
regime stated that the top part of the Y-shaped pillar connected to pillars holding the weight of the flyover is not executed in the proper manner and is about 8 inches outside the pillars. His allegation was that this flyover which is scheduled to be completed by December ... the incumbent regime has hastened up ts completion targeting the elections.

It was after that the Chairman of the Road Development Authority in charge of supervision and others toojjaction last afternoon to make an explanation about the Engineering procedures by calling for a media discussion. What Chairman Mr. Nihal Sooriyaarachchi pointed out was that the parts concerned were produced in another country and that since some form of contortion has resulted after those were installed at places such as curvatures and thus appear somewhat distorted this way and that it is just the result of a curvature which offers no risk as such. Therefore, as it is not a dangerous situation, he said that construction specialists have approved it free from risk.

He added that all work is being done under standardised conditions and went to forward relevant documents dealing with the planning aspect saying that it was detected in advance that such a thing would not take place.

Preparations are in progress to complete the first phase of the Rajagiriya Flyover before the end of this year. The cost invested on this project which was begun in the year 2016 by the present government is estimated at Rs. 4700 million. An access point of 180 metres too is included in it. The flyover which runs into a distance of 542 metres comprises of 4 lanes. This is erected with the aid of Spain.
