"Will look for 104 million fine to be paid regarding Anusha - Lalith by collecting rupee each from upasakammalas"
United Opposition MP Bandula Goonawardena who attended a meeting held at Sunethra Devi Pirivena in Pepiliyana said yesterday that the entire Buddhist community of Sri Lanka should dedicate themselves towards Anusha and Lalith who were government officers and who were found guilty for having allocated funds during
the past election campaign for a benevolent act such as distributing 'sil' cloth which is valued by Buddhist devotees and that they had fallen into trouble. As such, he stated that the total fine and compensation of 104 million imposed on Mr. Lalith Weeratunga and Anusha Pelpita who were convicted and found guilty of the 'sil' cloth court case should be collected from the entire Buddhist public at a rupee each and paid, as decided by the maha sangha and the Joint Opposition.
Mr. Bandula Goonewardena further mentioned that no officer of the state who did not indulge in corruption and commission-rackets are in a position to pay a sum of something like Rs. 2 million and Rs. 50 million and that what the two of them did was simply carry out an order and this money be collected from the public led by the maha sangha with nayaka theros of temples of this country and thus would settle this fine and compensation.
