The Customs Department has seized a stock of red sandalwood worth 100 million rupees.
The stock of red sandalwood was seized at the Colombo Harbour while being transported from India to Dubai via Sri Lanka. The stock was packed in 445 boxes and imported illegally from South India after being declared as sanitary ware. The stock had been seized when Customs officials had scanned and checked on suspicion a container that had arrived from India. The container was detained on suspicion and was checked by the Customs officials today, during which four metric tons of sandalwood was seized. These activities were carried out under the supervision of Customs Director General Jagath Wijeweera.
