A stock of spoilt potatoes has been seized from the Pettah area.
The Consumer Protection Authority had received many complaints from consumers that potatoes unsuitable for consumption had been released to the market with the high prices commodity was fetching. Accordingly the Special Monitoring Unit of the Authority launched a special operation in Fourth Cross Street in Pettah and succeeded in seizing 5500 kilograms of spoilt potatoes.
Officials of the Consumer Protection Authority said that it not possible to detect the fungus in these spoilt potatoes and called upon the consumers to be cautious when purchasing potatoes.
