The President has vested the Ranaviru houses constructed under the Api Wenuwen Api programme within the Colombo District in the war heroes.
The Api Wenuwen Api Fund was mooted based on a concept of President Rajapaksa. The Ranaviru Housing programme mooted with these Funds is operative under the guidance of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. The opening of the Housing Scheme comprising 112 houses and launched in the Pitipana area in Homagama in the Colombo District took place under the auspices of President Rajapaksa today. It is the 14th Stage of the Api Wenuwen Api Ranaviru Housing Programme.
Symbolising the vesting of the houses in the war heroes, the President handed over the keys of a house to M.M.J.R. Kumara serving in the Gajaba Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army. Thereafter the President handed over the keys of the rest of the houses to the war heroes at a function organized at the Pitipana Maha Vidyalaya. Among the house recipients were 69 members from the Army, 26 from the Sri Lanka Navy and 17 from the Air Force. Chairman of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Regulatory Commission and President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge and its Director General Anusha Pelpita handed over a sum of 120 million rupees to construct 100 houses for the war heroes in the Anuradhapura District. The Rakna Lanka establishment handed over ten million rupees for this programme. In addition, it handed over one million rupees for the construction of the Sandahiru Seya in Anuradhapura. The related cheque was presented to the President by Major General Egodawela. The President distributed school gear to children of the Pitipana Maha Vidyalaya. The Maha Sangha chanted Seth Pirith and blessed the President in view of his birthday. A gathering including Parliamentarians and Defence Chiefs was present.
In the meantime, the handing over of a fully fledged house constructed for another low income family in the Kimbulawela area took place under the auspices of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabhaya Rajapaksa today. The value of the new house is 2.5 million rupees. The gifting of the house took place to mark the President’s birthday and his anniversary of assumption of office. President of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Defence Ministry Ayoma Rajapaksa was present on the occasion. Hitherto three houses were gifted to low income families who lived in the area with lesser facilities.
