BBC has been engaged in self criticism following the statement made by President yesterday that people in glass houses should not throw stones.
Yesterday foreign journalists asked a number of questions from the President at a news briefing held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma on the second day of CHOGM. The President directly responded to the statement made by the British Prime Minister about the need to hold a war crime inquiry after four months.
The main news item of the BBC channel has been the statement made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the self criticism on England. The BBC criticism themed on abstaining from applying undue pressure on President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The President recalled that in 1972 a serious human rights violation has occurred in Northern Ireland related to the killing of 13 civilians in cold blood. The report on the incident was released only after 40 years. It is doubtful that the people of Britain had any memory of the incident when the report came out on 15th June 2010.
BBC gave a hint as to the length of time Sri Lanka needs to carry out an investigation into the loss of lives in the 30 years of terrorism, as Britain took 40 years to compile a report on the deaths of 13 people, following the comments made by the President at the media briefing held yesterday.
