Heads of State hold bilateral discussions with President

The Heads of State of a number of countries have held bilateral talks with President Mahinda Rajapaksa.


President of Rwanda Paul Kagame who participated in CHOGM met the President at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Convention Centre. The Rwandan President expressed his appreciation about the arrangements and his understanding about the problems. He also expressed his desire to strengthen bilateral relations.

Prime Minister of Swaziland Banabas Sibusiso Dlamini also held bilateral discussions with the President at the Waters Edge in Battaramulla. The Prime Minister of Swaziland expressed his regrets for the inability of the Swaziland king to participate in the summit. He said that Swaziland hopes to improve bilateral relations with Sri Lanka.


President of Seashells James Michel also met with the President at the Waters Edge. They exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations.

Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong praised the impressive opening ceremony of CHOGM.

He also informed the President that other discussions held following the inaugural ceremony were also successful. The Singaporean Prime Minister also appreciated the speech delivered by the President saying that it was rich in fresh ideas. The President recalling the suffering endured by the people for nearly 30 years said that peace has now been ushered into the country. The Singaporean Prime Minister said that complex problems remain for a long time following a war and it takes a long time to heal the wounds. The Singaporean Prime Minister informed President that his country is playing the role of an observer and will be impartial.
