Malaysia says Sri Lankan President is leader who has discharged significant service for reconciliation

Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa is a Head of State who has discharged an outstanding service on behalf of reconciliation. It is clearly reflected through the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.

Dr. Jemilah Mahmoud representing Malaysia made this reference joining in the first session of the People’s Forum organized at Chaya Trans Hotel at Hikkaduwa in Galle.


Dr. Mahmoud said that their discussions are important in crating the Commonwealth Development Plan. They are deliberating on targeting the success of this Development Plan in the year 2015. The contribution of all creators of Civil Organizations in this respect is of special significance. He invited everyone to join in achieving success of this Development Plan. He added that views and proposals of each individual are important as a special task is vested in the Civil Organizations in this regard.

The first session of the People’s Forum is being held with the intention of speeding up the journey towards development further enhancing the strength of the Commonwealth nations. Co-Chairman of the Forum, Dr. Lalith Chandradasa addressing the gathering referred to the significance of the meeting.

Dr. Chandradasa said their basic target was to reach development. Views of all participants are vital towards this end. A common environment should be prepared through discussions. He told the participants that it would be possible for them to identify the needs to achieve development. He pointed out that this task could be met by by making a vital contribution to the programmes that been prepared for the day.

Representatives of many countries express their views in today’s sessions. Civil organizations are discussing food security, climatic changes, strengthening the economy of women, creative activities and generating job opportunities at the People’s Forum.
