President hands over keys to 22 school libraries

The President handed over the keys of libraries built at 22 schools in the Anuradhapura district under the Nana Guna Piyasa programme.


Libraries were built at 22 schools in the Anuradhapura district under the Nana Guna Piyasa programme launched by the Presidential Secretariat to provide libraries to remote schools. The keys were handed over this morning at the President’s House in Anuradhapura. The Programme was launched under the joint sponsorship of the private as well as the public sector. All constructions are being carried out by the Civil Defence Department. Technological assistance is provided by the National Engineering Research and Development Centre. Thousand books are donated to each fully fledged library constructed in an area of 800 square feet. The first stage of the programme was held in the Monaragala district covering 27 schools. The second stage was completed in the Anuradhapura district. Ministers Tissa Karalliyadda, S.M. Chandrasena, Duminda Dissanayake, Deputy Minister Veerakumara Dissanayake, Governor of the North-central Province Karunaratne Divulgane, Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunge and Chief of the Presidential Staff Gamini Senarath were amongst those who participated in the occasion.
