Prince Charles arrives for CHOGM

Prince Charles, the heir to the British Throne arrives in Sri Lanka. He reached the Katunayake International Airport this afternoon. He is visiting the island to represent Queen Elizabeth at the opening of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Colombo.


The Prince of Wales arrived in the island in a special aircraft accompanied by the Duchess of Cornwall. On arrival they were accorded a red carpet welcome. British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka John Rankin and many Parliamentarians, including Senior Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama were present at the Airport. Today is also the 65th birthday of the Prince. The royal visitors who greeted all of them also signed the special guest book at the Visitors Lounge.

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting will open tomorrow under the patronage of Prince Charles. During his stay in the island, he is scheduled to tour the hill country and visit the iconic Temple of Tooth in Kandy. The Prince is also scheduled to visit the Malwatte and Asgiriya Maha Vihares.
