Minister Wimal Weerawansa has said that the country which was described by some in the year 2005 as a failed state has now been transformed into a resounding success. He said the credit should go to the President.
The Minister was addressing a ceremony organized to declare open the refurbished reading hall of the M.D.H. Jayawardena Vidyalaya in Talangama under the “Lama Mithuru” Schools Project.
The Minister pointed out that in 2005 the international media said that Sri Lanka was a failed state. A failed state indicates that the state machinery has collapsed. The Minister mentioned that Sri Lanka was on top of the list of such countries. Usually, a failed state is not permitted to stage any conferences, including the Commonwealth Summit as such countries are not in a position to do so.
But he mentioned that everyone is now compelled to accept the fact that whether they like it or not this small motherland formerly in the list of failed countries, has been transformed into a successful state after the mandate received in the year 2005.
