Religious observances have been held in many Vihares to invoke blessings on the President.
Religious observances were conducted in many temples to bless the President in view of his birthday yesterday. The President visited the GangaramaTemple in Colombo and participated in religious observances. Thereafter members of the Maha Sangha including the Chief Incumbent of the GangaramaTemple the Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara thera chanted Seth Pirith and blessed the President.
An Ashirvadha Pooja was organized at the Sambodhi Vihare in Colombo under the guidance of the Ven. Daranagama Kusaladharma Thera. Present at this Pooja were members of the Maha Sangha including the Mahanayake of the Ramanna Nikaya, the Most Ven. Napane Pemasiri Thera.
Religious observances of the Bodhi Pooja organized at the Bellanwila Raja Maha Vihare were conducted by the Ven. Prof. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Nayake Thera, of the Bellanwila Raja Maha Vihare, the Chancellor of the SriJayawardenepuraUniversity. Members of the Maha Sangha including the Ven. Dr. Medagoda Abhayatissa Nayake Thera joined in this occasion. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne and many Parliamentarians were present at this Pinkama.
The President who visited the Vidyalankara Pirivena in Peliyagoda engaged in special religious ceremonies and secured blessings. The President called on the head of the Vidyalankara Pirivena and Chancellor of the KelaniyaUniversity the Ven. Dr. Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Nayake Thera and received his blessings. The President also called on other members of the Maha Sangha including the Ven. Prof. Kumburugamuwe Vajira Nayake Thera and received their blessings.
The President later participated in religious observances at the Vishnu Devale in Kelaniya He first paid obeisance to the Ashtapala Bodhiya and then joined in religious observances at the Devale and secured blessings. This Pooja was organized by Minister Mervyn Silva. The President also exchanged pleasantries with devotees present at the Devale.
