Today is the third anniversary of the President’s election into the second term in office.
Today is the Third Anniversary of the election of President Rajapaksa, who enthroned peace in Sri Lanka after eradicating 30 years of terrorism, to the second term of office. He is the pilot behind the “Wonder of Asia” concept. Mahinda Rajapaksa commenced his first term of office after emerging victorious in the Presidential election held in the year 2005 for the election of the fifth Executive President of Sri Lanka, directing the country towards a new path. He assumed office when the entire country was embroiled in a fear psychosis. However, during his first term of office he succeeded in enthroning peace in the country eliminating terrorism and injecting new life to the economy that was paralysed.
He embarked on the first stage of his political career after being elected to the Beliatta electorate in the 1970 General Election. He was then elected as the youngest member of Parliament. Since then he did his utmost on behalf of the people.
Before concluding his first term of office, Mahinda Rajapaksa called for the next Presidential election on 26th January 2010. He embarked on a development path targeting the Harbour, Highways, Airport and Agricultural sectors placing the Mahinda Chinthana before the people and adding new hopes to the people. He directed the country towards on astonishing journey during his first term of office which ended on 19th November 2010.
