During the three decades of conflict the ruthless LTTE terrorists destroyed the lives of thousands of innocent people.
21st December too was noted as a day on which the terrorists unleashed their brutalities. 1984 is known as a year when the terrorist activities reached its height. Two soldiers on duty in Jaffna lost their lives in a clash on this day in the same year. In 1987 the terrorists killed two more soldiers in Batticaloa. In 1988 four soldiers lost their lives in a clash that occurred in Pillumale. In 1990 four soldiers lauid down their lives in Kondachchi. In 1991 three soldiers lost their lives in a clash that occurred in Kattaparichchan. In 1993 a heavy clash occurred in Kadiraweli in which four soldiers were killed. There were three soldiers amongst the many lives that were lost in 1996 in clashes that occurred in Nelliadi between the two factions. On 21st December 1999 the battles intensified in Paranthan forward defence line. The clashes lasted several hours and 16 soldiers laid down their lives. Two members of the group lost their lives when the group of soldiers on foot patrol came under heavy LTTE fire in Kuchchaweli on 21st December 2000 area. A total of 58 lives including those of three civilians and 55 members of the security forces were lost on this day during the three decades.
If not for the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers in protecting the civilians, this country would have broken under the pressure exerted by LTTE terrorism. The security forces that marched forward under the leadership of the commander in Chief of the Security Forces President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the guidance provided by Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa eliminated terrorism on 18th May 2009 at the Wellimulliwaikkal lagoon and taught a lesson to the world. There is no other bitter lesson than the elimination of terrorism for the pro-LTTE elements here and abroad. That is why they are attempting to breathe life into the decadent terrorist outfit. Britain and the US that have joined the treacherous forces seek investigation reports of the conflict. But the human rights violations committed by them over the years are now being revealed to the world. The past human rights records of those who seek reports from us are now being exposed. We have thus brought forth the investigation report on LTTE brutality.
