Christmas celebrations

Christmas celebrations are being held throughout the country.


The Christmas carol programme of the Ministry of Foreign affairs was held under the patronage of First Lady Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa. Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris and Deputy Minister Neomal Perera attended the programme, held at the Ministry auditorium.

The Navy Christmas carols were held at the naval headquarters in SLNS Parakrama under the patronage of the Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith. The First lady also participated in the occasion. Students of St. Peter’s College and St. Joseph’s College in Colombo, and the children living at the Daya home for children participated in the event.

A magnificent Christmas tree has been put up by the staff of the security forces headquarters in Kilinochchi. It is the tallest tree to have so far come up. The tree at the Kilinochhci public grounds is decorated with electric bulbs. A Christmas carol recital and a cultural show was held with the participation of all communities including the Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims. The tree will be on display till Monday.

A Christmas carol recital was also organized by the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority simultaneous to its 42nd anniversary. It was held at its main office in Rajagiriya under the patronage of its Chairman Chandana Arunadeva.
