Indian politicos have strongly opposed the decision taken by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to release the convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi murder case.

Former Janatha Party Leader Subramaniam Samy expressing views to the media said that Jayalalitha was only a cinema actress. She had no experience on the enforcement of law as she lacked knowledge on law and order. Mr. Subramaniam said that taking such decisions without a knowledge on the law of the country is farcical. Tamil Nadu Congress Leader Gnana Thesigan had also expressed his protest in this respect. He said that these activities by the Dravida Munnethra Kalagam and the Anna Dravida Munnethra Kalagam amount to supporting terrorism. Political leaders have pointed out that such actions by Jayalalitha were a serious threat to India’s sovereignty.

In the meantime joining in an interview over the BBC Tamil Service the Government Solicitor General K. Vishwanathan had said that the decision taken by the Tamil Nadu Government to release the convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi murder case was illegitimate. He emphasized that it was not only illegal and was immoral. Also it is mandatory to seek the consent of the Indian Central Government if someone taken by the Indian Criminal Investigations Department after investigations was found guilty. He added that this had been clearly mentioned in the Indian Criminal Investigations Act.
