Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has emphasized that there is no change in the Government’s stand whatever proposals were presented at the Geneva Sessions against the country. He pointed out that action would be initiated to defeat these proposals collectively joining with the international community.

The Minister said that the Government’s stand is that it will work for a clear cut programme to achieve total reconciliation in the future, discharging its work on behalf of the people, whether a Resolution is presented or not in Geneva. He pointed out that Resolutions are being brought forward not to safeguard or to promote human rights in the country.

It should be clearly mentioned that these Resolutions are mainly targeted at implementing a political agenda. Such things cannot be permitted. Sri Lanka has countries which supported earlier and many countries have come forward to support Sri Lanka. He said they hoped to implement a common programme after holding discussions with them. It is not good to give way for the implementation of independent political agendas in the countries. He added that international opinions are building that it should be objected.
