Minister Johnston Fernando has said that the UNP was slinging mud at the President and the people’s Government elected by the people. It was spreading ill will and hatred.
The Minister said that the UNP always talks about the cost of goods and the people are leading difficult lives during an election. This has been their slogan for several years. There should be a programme to win an election. Roads have been developed significantly. This is a people’s Government and a leader who loves the people. Whatever challenges are made against the country, he mentioned that these would be faced successfully in unity with the people. He said the United People’s Freedom Alliance will secure a landslide victory at this poll and that no one can stop it.
Minister Johnston Fernando was addressing a news conference held at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Headquarters to elucidate the stand of the United People’s Freedom Alliance on the Provincial Council poll. The Minister joined the news conference with a bag of goods worth 5000 rupees.
The Minister said that he visited the CWE and purchased goods worth 5000 rupees. But Karu Jayasuriya said that if goods were purchased for this amount it could be put only in a polythene bag costing five rupees. The Minister displayed to the media the goods he purchased.
It contained essential commodities including five kilogrammes of rice, five kilogramme of dhal, five kilogrammes of potato, sprats, chicken, coconut oil, big onions and chillie powder.
