The President has issued instruction to construct the Pundaluoya town according to a new urban plan. The President who made inquiries into the welfare of civilians who were impacted by a fire, provided assistance to the displaced.
A fire broke out in the Pundaluoya town in Kotmale early this morning completely destroying many shops. 132 persons belonging to 32 families were displaced by the fire. President Rajapaksa arrived in the Pundaluoya town this morning to make inquiries into the wellbeing of these families.
On this occasion the President instructed the officials to vest the town in the Urban Development Authority and reconstruct it according to a new plan.
The President dished out to these displaced families, who have taken shelter at the Kotmale Pradeshiya Sabha auditorium, the most essential items they need.
These included dry rations, textiles and other essential goods. The people expressed their gratitude for the visit paid by the President to them to inquire into requirements.
The President said that he was deeply concerned about the disastrous situation the people in the town had to face. He said that he had already instructed the officials to construct the town according to a new plan.
Pointing out that the cause of the fire was the haphazard constructions, the President underscored the need to the officials the need to undertake constructions based on a streamlined plan.
A group of Sinhala and Tamil civilians arrived in the Pundaluoya town on hearing about the President’s arrival to have a glimpse at him.
Present on the occasion were Ministers C.B. Ratnayake and Arumugam Thondaman, Deputy Minister Mutthu Sivalingam and Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake.
