Trial of former Chief Justice fixed for May 12th

Add comments

The trial of the case against former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake for not declaring her bank assets has been fixed for the 12th of May this year.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya told the Court today that the trial will begin after charges are read out of the case filed by the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption.

When the case was taken up today, the Magistrate gave this ruling considering a request made by Defence lawyers that they needed more time to study the charges before they are being presented in the open Court. The Bribery Commission had filed this lawsuit saying that Shirani Bandaranayake while serving as Chief Justice had committed malpractices in the declaration of assets and liabilities.
