Outer Circular Road opened for public

The public have been accorded the opportunity of visiting the first stage of the Colombo Outer Circular Road. It is scheduled to be opened on Saturday the 08th.


The Colombo Outer Circular Road stretch from Kaduwela to Kottawa is scheduled to be declared open on Saturday the 08th. However, before its opening the public are being given an opportunity to walk on the road today and tomorrow. Symbolizing its opening to the public a cart race was held this morning from the Pore overhead bridge in Athurugiriya up to Kaduwela. Minister Susil Premajayantha and Kaduwela Mayor G.H. Buddhadasa joined in the occasion.


A notable feature is the longest overhead bridge that has been constructed on the stretch between Kaduwela and Kottawa in the Colombo Outer Circular Road. It is 3.2 kilometres long.


A walk was held with the participation of school children from Kaduwala to Athurugiriya after the Cart Race. Musical bands of schools added colour to this walk.


In the meantime, arrangements have been finalized for the opening of the Southern Expressway from Pinnaduwa in Galle up to Godagama on the 15th of this month. This stretch on the Expressway which is 32 kilometres has four inter exchange points. These are located at Pinnaduwa, Imaduwa, Kokmaduwa and Godagama areas.


Minister Susil Premajayantha said that an opportunity has been given to the public to visit this stretch of the Outer Circular Road for two days until tomorrow after the work was completed by the Highways Ministry. The Minister extended his gratitude to the people of the area for the cooperation that is being extended by them to the Government’s development programmes.
