It is revealed that parents who had gone to Geneva claiming that the Government was not holding a justifiable inquiry with regard to the murder of their children had even not come to Courts.
Chief Magistrate of Trincomalee E. Saravanarasa took up today the case in respect of the five murders carried out by a group of unidentified persons at the Gandhi Roundabout in Trincomalee in the year 1996. A notable feature was that the absence of the witnesses in this lawsuit.
Attorney Ajith Prasanna pointed out that these witnesses who were demanding for a reasonable inquiry in respect of the murder of their children had gone on a foreign tour to meet the needs of the Tamil Diaspora. The defendants were also not present in Courts claiming that there had been a mechanical fault in the vehicle in which they were travelling to Court.
The Magistrate issued warrants on them and intimated to them to show cause for their delay through a motion tomorrow. The Magistrate announced that the case will be taken up for hearing on the 24th of April and ordered the witnesses to be present in Court on this particular day.
