Construction work on an attractive new bridge replacing the existing narrow bridge was launched as a solution to traffic congestion. Its first stage was opened by President Rajapaksa recently. The new bridge is being constructed to suit the attractiveness of the environment and it is 210 metres long. The width is 25 metres. There are also six lanes. Construction work is in progress with the utilization of modern constructions skills. The Project includes pedestrian lanes. The entire project is being handled by the Ministry of Ports, Highways and Shipping.
