The Customs have arrested three women who attempted to smuggle in foreign currency notes to the value of 8.3 million rupees. Customs Media Spokesman Leslie Gamini said that the three women who had arrived from Chennai were apprehended at the Katunayake International Airport. The Customs Media Spokesman said that these three Sri Lankan women were apprehended at arrival terminal at the Katunayake Airport at around 10.15 last night. Among the suspects were a mother and a daughter. They had arrived from Chennai. They had left the country three days ago. On arrival they possessed foreign currency notes to the tune of 8.3 million rupees. These comprised US Dollars, Saudi Riyal, US Pounds and Euros. They had concealed the foreign currency notes on their person. Mr. Leslie Gamini said that Customs Officers are conducting inquiries.
