President Rajapaksa has said that the Malwatte Mahanayake Thera who renders a great service by displaying piety and virtue while protecting the identity of the nation is a meritorious endowment of the nation.
The President made this reference in a message of greetings issued to mark the 70th birthday of the Mahanayake of the Malwatte Chapter, the Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera. He is a great exemplary Bhikkhu who truly epitomised the Buddha’s saying that if a Bhikkhu speaks with a guarded tongue knowing his limits with a composed mind and properly espouses purpose and the Dhamma the style of his speech will be most pleasant.
The coincidence of the Mahanayake’s 70th birthday and the 10th anniversary of elevation to the highest post of Mahanayake Thera is a great fortune.
The President said he joins the nation in wishing the Mahanayake long life on this momentous occasion with the hope and feeling that this colourful bhikkhu service will be evident in the future too.
