The Sri Lanka Navy has apprehended 54 people who were attempting to illegally migrate to Australia. The Navy today intercepted a trawler with 54 people on board off the coast of Mullaitivu while they were allegedly attempting to migrate to Australia. Spokesman of the Navy, Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said that the illegal migrants have been brought to the Navy Post at the Trincomalee Harbour for further investigations. There was marked decline in the past few months in the number of illegal migrants to Australia as a result of the constant vigilance maintained by the Navy. The Navy has come in for praise from the Australian Government for these moves.
