Minister Piyankara Jayaratne has said that he is inviting the opposition to view how development has been effected to all Airports within the country rather than making accusations by only visiting Mattala.
7.3 million tourists arrived in the island last year from the Katunayake International Airport. There was a need for a second International Airport in the country and the President fulfilled this need. Development is taking place in every part of the country. He said development is not only limited to Mattala. The Minister invited the Opposition to visit the other internal Airports and join in the development of the country.
The Minister was expressing after joining in a visit to inspect the development that is being effected to the Uhana Airport in Ampara.
Speaking further the Minister said that the modernization of the internal Air services will serve as a catalyst for the growth in the tourism industry.
Officials including the Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation Services joined the Minister in the observation tour.
