A series of religious programmes will be held in Anuradhapura tomorrow and the day after to invoke blessings on the President for his birthday and the Assumption of Office Anniversary.
The Presidential Secretariat Staff is organizing this series of religious programmes to bless the President for his birthday and the anniversary of his assumption of office as well as for assuming the Chair of the Commonwealth. Accordingly a Bodhi Pooja Pinkama will be held at the historic Jaya Sri Mahabodhi in Anuradhapura at 6.00 p.m. tomorrow. An all night pirith chanting will begin on the same night near the Ruwanweli Seya. It will be followed by the offering of alms to 1000 members of the Maha Sangha near the Jaya Sri Mahabodhi.
In he meantime, members of the Presidential Security Division and other members organized a programme for the distribution of books and school gear among children marking the President’s birthday. These books and school gear were distributed among 50 children of selected schools from the island. The event took place at the Seevali Madhya Maha Vidyalaya in Borella under the patronage of Brig. H.D.G. Ranasinghe, the chief of the Presidential Security Division. School Principal Sydney Ashoka Lokukumara was also present on the occasion.
