Slum dwellers are being provided new houses at Mihindusenpura in Dematagoda.

The dwellers in the Castle Garden area in Cotta Road Borella had been living in slums in most awful conditions. Under the programme of granting houses to the shanty dwellers in Colombo, these residents had received new houses in the Housing Scheme at Mihindusenpura in Dematagoda.

These dwellers are now entering their new houses, realizing a long felt dream of living in houses with all basic facilities. Our camera crew was able to record this video footage indicating how they were moving to their new houses with their goods. There are 500 Units at the Mihindusenpura Housing Complex.

These houses were built with the blessings of President Rajapaksa and the guidance of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Similar housing schemes have been launched for the benefit of slum dwellers in Colombo. Accordingly it is not very far that Colombo will soon transform into a City devoid of shanties.
