Finance Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera has said that the ability to achieve the economic targets of the Sri Lankan economy, despite the world economic downturn, is a notable victory for the Government. He mentioned that the 2014 budget is a strong foundation to surmount future challenges.
The Finance Secretary was addressing a meeting in Colombo yesterday to appraise state officials about the 2014 budget presented by the President in Parliament. Representatives of the private sector were also present at this meeting.
Further expressing his views, Dr. Jayasundera said that the country had already succeeded in expanding investment opportunities and reaching economic growth targets.
The Finance Secretary emphasized that Sri Lanka succeeded in progressing sans any obstacles despite the world economic downturn. He attributed this mainly to the proper economic planning and management. It will be possible to further reduce the budget deficit. The programmes targeting this goal are in place. Expanding facilities available for investment and attracting more investors are vital in this respect. Dr. Jayasundera added that it is not a challenge to reach these economic goals in the face of these activities.
