A Sikh leader of India has said that Britain should be impressed upon to look into war crimes in India before setting a deadline for Sri Lanka to probe into alleged war crimes.

Bhai Harcharanjeet Singh Dhami, a Sikh leader of India pointed out that with the same yardstick as the British Prime Minister had asked the Sri Lankan President, they request him to prevail upon the Indian Prime Minister to ensure credible, transparent and independent international inquiry into November 1984 anti-Sikh massacre within specific time-frame. Britain as the cradle of democracy is on test and they do not want to see him fail the same.

The Sikh leader said it is unfortunate that the successive British governments which witnessed the anti-Sikh massacre in 1984, but despite a passage of 29 years, has chosen to remain silent. He emphasized that it should be the obligation of the British Prime Minister to exert pressure on the Indian Prime Minister to hold an inquiry in this respect and it is improper to treat different countries with different yardsticks.
