The Department of Census and Statistics points out that it has concluded gathering data on those who had gone missing during the conflict period.
Complaints had been lodged with regard to people who had disappeared during the 30-year conflict period. Accordingly the Department of Census and Statistics unveiled a programme to collect data on missing persons, based on the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.
Accordingly the Department said it has concluded gathering information on missing persons. The Department emphasized that certain Non-Governmental Organizations and political parties were carrying out false propaganda on missing persons and it would be in a position, to give correct statistics in this respect within the next few days.
The data on missing persons will be analyzed in the next few days. Thereafter it will be possible to give genuine information on impacted persons. Dire attention was drawn to securing meticulous data when information was gathered with respect to missing persons in the Northern and Eastern areas.
