Trains are operating as usual. 43 of the 49 trains which were due to run had operated. Railways General Manager B.A.P. Ariyaratne said that necessary measures have been taken to provide a maximum service to the people.
The Railways General Manager said that in the recent history this is the first time that they were able to operate the highest number of trains during a strike stage by Locomotive drivers. He said that some of the drivers are providing their services, making a vital contribution to the Department. He is optimistic that they would be able to provide a service to the commuters minimizing the hardships they experience. Some Union members are involved in the strike as they cannot go against a handful who take arbitrary decisions.
Mr. Ariyaratne called on the locomotive drivers to come forward to serve the people without putting them into difficulty.
