Sri Lanka in an effort to attract Foreign Direct Investment into the country after the end of the war is looking to woo Malaysian investors, especially in infrastructure development and the rapidly growing hospitality industry.

Malaysia’s High Commissioner Azmi Zainuddin has said that Sri Lanka offers immense opportunities for Malaysian investors, especially in infrastructure development.

The Malaysian diplomat in Sri Lanka said Malaysia should capitalise on its good bilateral relationship with Sri Lanka to have a bigger presence in the country.

He told Bernama, the National News Agency of Malaysia that the Sri Lanka Government is determined to attract investments to the country after the end of the 30-year-long civil war in 2009.
Malaysian companies have always been in the island, even during the war, especially in the telecommunications and infrastructure segments.

The Malaysian diplomat said that now there are more opportunities available and they should take advantage of it. Among others, the hospitality industry is booming in Sri Lanka. In Colombo, there is a lot of construction for new hotels, and they are big players in the industry,” he said, adding Jaffna and the Eastern Province, which are yet to be fully developed, offer immense opportunities.
