Muthuhettigama caught by police .... in Katunayaka!
Nishantha Muthuhettigama who was holding the portfolio of Deputy Minister violated the law point blank and was arrested by police when returning from Singapore to Sri Lanka. He was so taken into custody at Katunayaka Airport around 11.30 this morning.
He is expected to be produced before Negombo Courts. When he had been issued a warrant by Baddegama Courts in relation to Wanduramba stage being set on fire, he had rescued his accomplices by force and had then fled to Singapore last 26th in their company!
Later, having comported himself without any responsibility as such, he had engaged in a sort of drama saying that he went abroad to take a rest.
The flight UL 302 in which Deputy Minister Mr. Muthuhettigama reached here was 11.20 this morning when 2 police jeeps with a team of about 25 police officers were stationed near the VIP terminal. The Deputy Minister who has been issued a warrant was thus taken into custody today at Katunayaka Airport. After the arrest-procedure at Katunayaka Airport he was handed over to the CID. He was expected to be produced before Negombo Courts.
Video clips of Muthuhettigama where he got the benefit of salutes of police officers when moving around in absolute freedom near the police even after the suspects were nabbed initially had been flashed across the media.
Later, when he tried to flee after being issued warrants, about 2 hours before that, though the Media Spokesman as well as the Emergency Unit of the Police 119 were notified thrice, he had made his get away freely; but today the police had arrested him with 25 officers.
Because of this incident, the OIC of Wanduramba Police has had to relinquish his duties.
