Namal speaks about CSN ownership

MP Namal Rajapaksa who joined in an interview over a rupavahini channel yesterday argued that the Rajapaksa Family had no connection with  the ownership of  CSN Channel. What he said was that because younger brother Yoshitha's girl
friend was holding a prominent position there, their family supported the CSN  Channel as a support for her. Whatever  it is, Namal was reluctant to mention what the support was. The dialogue which was broadcast over the air on Hiru TV Salakuna is as follows:

"My second brother's girl friend worked on this CSN Channel. So he started  visiting that place often. In the same way he was active as the captain of the rugger team .... provided support. So if anyone asked for some support we would grant it whenever possible.  If his girl friend would come and ask for a favour of course it would be done.

* What support was given that way?
When she told some things of hers to be done .... those were done. But  since these are matters related to courts, I can't say what they are.

* Was support given to your girl friend or was a Channel given to the girl friend?
I don't think my younger brother is so foolish so as to give the girl friend a Channel. Not only when  she was working there ... support  was extended when going to resthouses. For this age of ours we of course would give any support asked for, isn't it?

* Was clicking photos with staff members also granting of a favour?
It's like this no. When  I used to come to this Channel and also when outdoors how many photos we clicked! This channel is not mine. Not only pictures taken with Yoshitha ..... there are pictures taken with me there. There are photos taken of cricketers and politicos as well.

* Isn't the name Carlton which is in the CSN Network?
Yes ... anybody can register that name.

* When members of your family used to engage in various matters using the name Carlton, wasn't it a problem with others using this name?
The  rights of that name of course doesn't belong to us no. Anybody can use that name.

Youth speaks about his "Adala nehene" (video)

Youth speaks about his "Adala nehene" (video)

The dialogue which was at the back of the statement "Adala nene" video has been subjected to much talk all over among social media these days and it has come to be known that the  young man who said those words has been inconvenienced in this connection.

This youth who was enjoying himself in the company of a crowd of friends eating and drinking had gone to respond to a question posed to him by a friend in the process and had done so in a most wonderful manner
and when the friends persuaded him to repeat it, the episode was captured on video. The young man who had given his explanation in an entertaining manner with obscene words included in the reply on that occasion to this popular baffling question, "is it the hen or the egg that came first?" this  video was forwarded first to the What's App social media and secondly to the Facebook and other social websites by the friends. This was because the words he uttered were of a dual meaning which could even go to the extent of explaining other matters too.

Whatever it is, because of certain lewd words uttered by this young man and the friends being circulated, he had to face an embarrassing situation in particular instances. As such, he had made a request asking that  it be deleted saying, "that's enough .... now delete it' and had issued  another video once more.

That video which  circulated in the social media (minus the obscene words) and the video which carries what he said after that, from below

Eastern Chief Minister abusing Uniformed officer - Update 2

Eastern Chief Minister abusing Uniformed officer - Update 2

Eastern Province Chief Minister Nazeer Ahamed has asked pardon from the  President and the Prime Minister by sending a letter to them for having behaved in an unruly manner and dishonouring a Navy officer by shouting out at
him at a festival conducted at Sampur Maha Vidyalaya recently and in response the decision taken by the three armed forces  to boycott  all celebrations and festivals which he is to represent has now been revoked with the issue being brought to  a settlement.

The President who returned to the island after his tour of Japan has enquired into this matter. As mentioned in the letter by the Chief Minister, he has apologised to the staff of Sampur Maha  Vidyalaya as well as the students, foreign visitors and the Navy Officer who faced this situation that day. The decision taken by the three forces not to attend occasions where he was to attend has been arrived at before coming to the notice of the President and the Prime Minister and which he says a political shortcoming, the letter further mentions. The letter which requests the President and the prime Minister to take necessary steps concerning the incident also carries the following ideas:

'Names of the  English teacher of that school and the Governor of the province was mentioned as soon as I arrived at the school celebration; but names of  the Chief minister or that of the Education Minister of the province was not announced. On this occasion Mr. Atul Keshap the American Ambassador in Sri Lanka was present. Subsequently the Governor spotted me and invited me to the stage. But the moment I came on stage a Navy Officer who gave the impression  that he was handling activities related to this occasion appeared to block me. That was at the time I was moving on stage.  Maybe he may have acted so wondering with suspicion why the media was to come to the stage.

That aggressive behaviour was actually a fault according to the Penal Code. That in fact put me into a shock. I then asked him as to who he is to block me. At the same time I found fault  with the Hon. Governor for directing officers without a proper policy. What I felt on that occasion was that I became humiliated in the presence of a large gathering and foreign dignitaries. It is a sorry state of affairs to note at that moment that the security forces were guarding those who were at fault and that they were not taking steps in the wide duties expected of them to install justice.

After the President returned yesterday the relevant parties have been contacted and under these circumstances the decision arrived at by the three Forces not to represent celebrations where Eastern Province Chief Minister Nazer Ahamad was to attend and to bar him from entering camps of the three Forces has been revoked. The Army spokesman Brigadier Mr. Jayanath Jayaweera has announced  that this decision would take effect from today.

Minister John comments on vehicle price hike

Because of the taxes imposed as never before, the prices of vehicles in Sri Lanka has gone up these days. While various criticisms have been aimed about this, Minister John Amaratunga has given his
observations on this matter.

At a time he had participated at a discussion at a church in Galewala, Wahakottte and  was engaged in a casual discussion with the media he had mentioned that because the 'should be's and the should not be's are using motor vehicles, the price of motor vehicles has been increased. When the press inquired as to why the price of the three-wheeler which is the poor man's vehicle was increased, what he said was that those vehicles were much too many and that  there was an incognito request from Three-wheel Associations to increase the price. As such, the government has jacked up the levy of taxes on purpose and had taken measures so that the public are not in a position to buy vehicles, thus it was revealed through his talk.

Mattala named as world's emptiest airport!

Mattala named as world's emptiest airport!

A quaint article has been published yesterday (28) in the latest edition of the International Forbes Magazine which is an acclaimed magazine. It has been given the caption "The background story of the World's Emptiest Airport!" In this article provided by a tourist writer named Wade Shepherd he has made his comments about the surprising experiences after
going to Mattala Airport.

He records that this airport is situated amidst a forest and that this airport where only one or two airplanes come is patronised by some people who come there only to  see its beautiful surroundings. He has also reported that this  beautiful airport with 12 entry points have been constructed in a land of 12,000 square feet and has been erected in such a manner that it could manouvre large jet planes. Though this airport has been constructed to provide service to a million passengers for an year,  at the time he went there he was surprised, he says to observe that he happened  to be the only passenger who was there on that occasion. He further states that the empty large corridors had been abandoned and that the announcing services provided for the passengers were inaudible and that not even a single taxi driver was in sight.

Whatever it is, he records that when he was present there, he was able to see 2 women security officers and some females engaged in cleaning activities. He adds that there was a small restaurant with just one solitary employee there with a souvenir gift shop that was open. When enquiring into the climbing and descending process of this airport he says in his article, that he was able to gather points that reflected the interest in the thirst for money that China has displayed to earn money through national politics, Geographically-centred politics and massive projects including wastage and corruption.

Photographs showing how Matttala has gone void as portrayed in that article, from below.

Eastern Chief Minister abusing Uniformed officer -- Update

Eastern Chief Minister abusing Uniformed officer -- Update

The manner in which Eastern Chief Minister behaved disrespectfully against a Navy Uniformed Officer at a school ceremony has by now become an incident which has been severely criticised. Everybody is keeping his fingers crossed to see what the outcome is when thee President is to return to Sri Lanka.

When the Chief Minister was shouting out at the Officer on stage, what the Eastern Province
Governor Austin Fernando did was make a tap on the former's back and said 'not to take notice about it'. Expressing his ideas to a weekend newspaper he says that he has still not spoken to the Chief Minister after the incident. He also says that he does not wish to say what the  American Ambassador said that day. This is the response he gave when questioned about this:

* Actually what happened that day?
Like it was on the video. The Eastern Chief Minister lost hiss temper and spoke in that manner to the Navy Captain. The Navy Captain even apologised that time. Even after that the Chief Minister spoke in a rough tone.

* What is the reason for such a thing to happen?
What the Chief Minister said was that he was pushed.  But that I didn't see.

* Isn't it that the Chief Minister was not invited to that festival?
When that invitation came, the Chief Minister was overseas. So because there wasn't any way for him to get the invitation I sent a letter to his Secretary across my Secretary asking him to come for the festival because the American Ambassador also was to come. He was invited by my Office.

* How did the Navy Officer behave in that instance?
He behaved in a most humble and disciplined manner.

* Did the American Ambassador speak to you about this incident after it happened?
  Yes, he spoke.

*  What did he say to you?
What the two of us spoke, it's not moralistic enough to let the  media, the public to know.

* Did the Chief Minister speak to you after the incident?
No. Neither did I speak. He didn't speak too me.

* Did you speak to the Navy Officer?
After the incident I spoke to him and apologised. I didn't speak any further.

* Was this kind of behaviour reported earlier against the Chief Minister?
No. This is the first time.

* What is the action the Governor could take in an instance like this?
I was the person who gave him the appointment. I have no powers to take legal action about how he behaves himself and his discipline.

* Did the President ask you about this?
No. Didn't speak so far. Those are not matters spoken over the  phone.

* Is it reported that he behaves in this manner inside the provincial council?
No. Not reported to me. Neither am I going to enquire about those things.

* The Chief Minister has reprimanded you also, isn't it?
Hasn't reprimanded me. He has expressed opinions about me.  It's his personal matter ...  not applicable to me.
