Some seem to have forgotten the massive destruction unleashed by the tiger terrorists in the country throughout 30 years. Some are willfully attempting to forget these incidents, while some are determined to draw back the country to that dark era.
The entire country is being appraised so that such a calamity would not be experienced again. The episodes are being recalled so that such a dark period may not recur in the country.
Five war heroes died in a landmine exploded by the tiger terrorists targeting a jeep in which members of the security forces were traveling. The incident happened on 26th December in the year 1992 in Vakaneri South. Thus the terrorists embarked on their killing spree on 26th December in the dark period. On 26th December 1997, the terrorists unleashed an attack on the war heroes who were consolidating security in the Ponnankadu area. Seven war heroes were killed in this attack.
The next target of the terrorists was the Thiriyaya area in Trincomalee on 26th December 1998. They attacked the brave soldiers who were providing security to the innocent villagers, killing two of them. The tiger terrorists unleashed a massive attack on the war heroes in the Paranthan area on 26th December 1999. The number of soldiers who made supreme sacrifices in this attack was 15.
Two gallant soldiers were killed in a shell attack unleashed on a bunker at the Nagarkovil on 26th December in the year 2000. Again in the year 2007 on a day like today, the remorseless tiger terrorists killed four more war heroes in an attack at Adampan. On the same day members of the suicide sea tiger outfit mooted an attack on a naval trawler in the Northern sea taking away the lives of eleven brave naval ratings. The country lost the valuable services of three war heroes in a ruthless attack by the terrorists in the Adampan area.
By the time terrorism was annihilated from the country on 18th May 2009, the terrorists had taken away the lives of seven civilians and 55 war heroes on 26th December throughout the fear psychosis period. The members of the Security Forces succeeded in liberating the country from the terrorists risking their lives due to the direct bold decision taken by President Rajapaksa as a the Commander in Chief. All communities are now breathing a sigh of relief and enjoying the fruits of freedom won by the war heroes. Certain forces that cannot bear it are conspiring to destroy this peace and crate rights among the communities.
The nation is aware of the scrupulous strategies of these forces. But the people have not only by words but by deeds proved how they should respond to these forces. Britain and the United States are seeking reports on |human rights and leveling various accusations against Sri Lanka. But they have totally forgotten one fact. That is that they are hurling stones while remaining in glass houses.
