The Chinese Government has diverted its attention to the prevailing situation at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant.
The first stage of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant was launched with a credit assistance given by the Chinese Government.
The Chinese Government has taken cognizance of the reports so far published in the mass media on this Power Plant. Accordingly a group of officials of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka met Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi and some officials on the instructions of the Chinese Government. At this meeting the Chinese officials assured their consent to extend all necessary support for the efficient operation of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant. Accordingly action will be taken to get down experts of companies which had manufactured the main machinery and other appliances and examine their condition. The Chinese representatives agreed to identify the technical flaws and to get the flaws rectified through the construction companies.
Ministry Secretary M.M.P. Ferdinando, Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board W.B. Ganegala and many senior officials attended this discussion.
