No one can ever forget the brutal killing of innocent civilians by the tiger terrorists displaying their ruthlessness to the entire world.
This dark era which was stained with blood and filled with brutality is being reminisced in these episodes.
The tiger terrorists who murdered a war hero on 06th January 1986 as usual commenced their killing spree on this day throughout the dark era. In the year 2000 also on a day like today, the ruthless terrorists killed two war heroes who were providing security to the civilians in Vavuniya. Thattankulam in Vavuniya was being eyed by the terrorists on 06th January 2007 with the aim of quenching their thirst for blood. The terrorists planted a claymore mine near the road. Their target was a group of war heroes plying in their vehicle on this road. Three war heroes made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the country with the explosion of a claymore mine by the terrorists.
On the same day a private bus plying from Matara to Colombo was caught up in a bomb planted by the tiger terrorists close to the Seenigama area. As a result 12 civilians lost their lives.
In the year 2008, also on a day like today, the country lost the valuable lives of four war heroes in clashes which erupted in the Jaffna, Kilaly and Mullikulam areas. The remorseless tiger terrorists unleashed several serious attacks on heroic soldiers in the Kilaly, Muhamlai and Alankulam areas. 24 war heroes were killed in these skirmishes. Terrorism which plagued the country for 30 years was brought to a halt on 18th May 2009 from the Nanthikadal Lagoon, By then the brutal terrorists had taken away the lives of 13 civilians and 55 war heroes on January 06th throughout the fear psychosis period.
The brave soldiers who advanced with determination of wiping out terrorism from the country under the prudent leadership of President Rajapaksa and the guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, succeeded in enthroning permanent peace in the country.
As a result of this peaceful climate, all communities are now living in unity. But certain forces which are against the country are initiating action to destroy this peaceful environment.
The brave soldiers who liberated the innocent Tamil civilians from the clutches of the terrorists have set an example to the entire world by treating humanely family members of the terrorists and even the terrorist cadres who gave themselves up to the forces. Ex-combatants who were rehabilitated have been re-integrated into society and are now engaged in various professions. This is a fitting example to portray as to how the gallant soldiers had protected human rights.
The western forces not willing to face the reality and making unfounded and baseless allegations against Sri Lanka simply not because they are interested in human rights but for their existence and with the aim of averting obstacles to their weapon rackets.
