World Bank lauds Sri Lanka’s development

The World Bank Vice-President of the South Asian Region during a meeting with the President has lauded the progress achieved in development in Sri Lanka.


The World Bank South Asian Regional Vice President Philip Luello who is on a visit to Sri Lanka met President Rajapaksa at Temple Trees. Discussions centred on the country’s development process and the solidarity with the World Bank. The World Bank Vice President referred to the opportunity he received to exchange views with the civilians during his visit to the North and the East. Pointing out that the development that has taken place in Sri Lanka was attractive, the World Bank diplomat applauded the application of high standards in the construction of roads.


President Rajapaksa emphasized to him the unnecessary pressure exerted on the country by certain groups despite the vast development growth achieved by the country within a short period of ending the conflict. Noting that the country’s next challenge was to attract more investors, the President referred to the political stability and conducive situation prevailing in the country for investors.


The World Bank Vice-President said that Sri Lanka had received the proper guidance. He underscored that the World Bank was geared to continuously maintain links with Sri Lanka.


Finance Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera was present at this meeting.
