Who are the candidates of United People’s Freedom Alliance from the Western and Southern Provincial Councils who will be seeking the votes of the public? The signing of the nominations was carried out successfully.
The inking of nominations of candidates of the United People’s Freedom Alliance for the 2014 Western and Southern Provincial Council elections commenced at an auspicious time this morning. The nominations of candidates of the Galle, Matara and Hambantot Districts of the Southern Province were signed this morning. Some candidates of the Western Province also signed their nominations this morning. The inking of the nominations will also take place tomorrow. The candidates signed their nominations in the presence of United People’s Freedom Alliance General Secretary Susil Premajayantha, Sri Lanka Freedom Party General Secretary and Minister Maithripala Sirisena and Sri Lanka Freedom Party National Organizer and Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
Expressing his views on the occasion Minister Susil Premajayantha said that young talented representatives suitable for the policies of the United People’s Freedom Alliance have been selected to contest this Provincial Council polls.
The Minister said that by 4th morning they will complete the signing of the nominations and the group leaders serving in the respective Districts will hand over the nominations at suitable times on the 5th and 6th. He pointed out that the Freedom Alliance to achieve a landslide victory has selected former Councillors as well as new candidates to contest the polls. He added that the Freedom Alliance expects resounding victory in the two Provincial Councils under the prudent leadership of President Rajapaksa.
Minister Maithripala Sirisena said that the Freedom Alliance list consists of representatives of 10 constituent parties including the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. 173 candidates have been selected from these constituent parties to contest the polls. In addition to old face, new talented and skilled young persons in various fields have been granted candidacy. Minister Sirisena said that the signing of the nominations will be completed tomorrow.
The Freedom Alliance has made arrangements to file nominations for the Southern and Western Provincial Council polls on the 5th and 6th of this month. The acceptance of nominations commenced last Thursday and is due to draw to a close on 6th afternoon. The Elections Secretariat said that 20 Independent Groups have already placed deposits for the two Provincial Councils.
