The Consumer Affairs Authority has seized a stock of 25,000 kilograms of fruits unsuitable for consumption.
The Authority constantly carries out raids with the intention of providing the public with quality goods.
Accordingly it succeeded in recovering this stock of substandard fruits during a raid conducted in the Gunasinghepura area in Pettah. The Consumer Affairs Authority mentioned that they found that the fruits were spoilt at the time of the seizure.
It pointed out that the value of the load of substandard imported fruits exceeded six million rupees. It had been revealed that such fruits were being used to produce fruit drinks.
