Five Western Provincial candidates of Sarath Fonseka’s Democratic Party have resigned. They revealed that Fonseka is acting as a frantic person. No one can do politics with him. They are now aware of who he is. They clarified that before a massive disaster takes place, they are giving up their candidatures.
The candidates who resigned also revealed of Sarath Fonseka’s fraudulent links and cash transactions. An organization for the Protection of Democracy has been formed to safeguard the Party from Fonseka.
Colombo candidature Lakmal Dias said that their signatures were obtained for blank papers with 10 copies each. They later found that Fonseka will be sending members whom he like to the Provincial Council. He displayed the list of candidates of the Colombo District. The names of the two female clerks are also mentioned in it. These names have been included according to the wish of the Party Leader. Selections for the Councils will be made by the Party leader and not according to the preferential votes received by the candidates.
Colombo candidate Nalin Rajapaksa said they expected a change in the leadership. An arbitrary decision was taken when selecting the group head. No one listened to them.
Capt. D.M.P. Ruwanpura, a Kalutara candidate said that Sarath Fonseka had no sensitivity in politics. He always acted with hatred. He were called in names of animals in the Zoo. They will not receive anything from the party. They were spending their own money for the campaign. He also said that a candidate should pay 10,000 rupees per month if they cannot find 10 persons at the rate of 1000 rupees. He revealed that each of them had to pay 120,000 rupees per year. This is the nature of the democratic party. He pointed out that they cannot work with such a person.
Journalist Mohan Wickremasinghe, also a candidate of Colombo said that there was a meeting in Ratmalana. Displaying a poster, he said that the Party leader criticized it. But later he found that a photograph of Fonseka was not found in the poster. He said that they were adhering to the regulations enforced by the Elections Commissioner. He mentioned that the Party Leader was enraged as he was not building his image.
